Our version of a typical 'Roundabout' of this period, we make ours with 12 buttons at the front and a plain 1,1/2" high collar. The jacket is 6 piece construction and features a 'plain cuff fitted with two buttons.
As these were usually a private purchase and there are many different versions of these jackets surviving we will happily make this jacket to a different specification for you.

You choose whether you want an exterior side pocket and or fully functioning cuffs! If you wish you can add branch of service coloured cuff and or collars, branch of service coloured piping and then finally your size!

Federal Troops Trousers

Shown here are the main varieties of Federal trousers that we make, Corporal’s with a half inch wool chevron stripe, Sergeant’s with an inch and a half’s wool chevron stripe and Officer’s with a one eight of a inch wool ‘welt’.


Made in the correct weight and colour Sky Blue Kersey*. Entirely machine stitched. Cotton pockets, tin paper backed buttons, slash pockets,
watch pocket fitted. Cuff is plain. ‘V’ split waistband. Two piece rear construction. Staff Officers wear Dark blue with a 1/8th inch welt of gold ‘Russia Lace’.


When ordering please state which rank if any, branch of service i.e. Infantry, Cavalry, etc., your waist, inside leg measurements, plus any optional extras required.

We cut these to be closer fitting than our infantry trouser, you will be able to wear high boots over them. Please state whether Cavalry or Artillery when ordering NCO stripes.

Nine (small) button front with small stand-up collar, made in quality wool with four exterior pockets and one interior document pocket, lined in either black, brown polished cotton or natural white calico. Fitted with period adjustable buckle at the rear. Choose from Dark Blue, French Blue, Sky BlueYour choice of buttons from our standard range.
Standard dark blue vests with black polished cotton linings & nine buttons are usually in stock.

We consider this to be the best replica Union Shell jacket available today. Finished in best military weight wool with natural cotton lining and muslin sleeve lining with appropriate makers and inspectors stamps. Features twenty small eagle buttons and wool worsted braid in branch of service colour (Artillery Red, Cavalry Yellow; Dragoons Orange and Mounted Rifles Green). Sleeve buttons can be undone to allow the sleeve to be rolled up. Fitted inside pocket. Two bolsters fitted to the rear of jacket to support sword belt. This really is a quality uniform!!

This is our most popular Federal trouser and is based on the contractor's pattern .These are usually held in stock in most sizes However trousers with an inside leg longer than 33" are not and will be made to order in about 4-weeks.
Please note there is no extra charge for this service though.

You can add NCO stripes for all branches of service but please note if you specify for Cavalry, Mounted Rifles or Artillery, the trousers will be the Infantry pattern without the additional riding insert
